About RIAD
Community, Corporate and School leaders founded the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon in 1983 to promote and celebrate academic excellence among high school students. We've hosted 4 decades of state and two national competitions in the last 39 years. In 2022, students from 14 schools vied for the honor of representing the Ocean State at the USAD Nationals. The Decathlon is open to all public, private and parochial high schools in Rhode Island. Rhode Island Academic Decathlon assists by underwriting a portion of the cost of study materials for all teams. We also fund part of the expense for the state champions to compete in the United States Academic Decathlon. Traditionally, the state decathlon is held in March. In addition to individual and team medals, with the assistance of the Rhode Island General Assembly, scholarships are available to senior gold medalists. Following the state competiton, RIAD sends the top 2 teams to compete in the USAD Nationals. The Rhode Island Academic Decathlon is funded through a combination of corporate sponsorships, state grants and individual contributions. It operates on an annual budget of about $50,000. |

The annual state competition will be Sunday, March 5, 2023; in person at Bryant University. See a list of previous winners of the RI Academic Decathlon. Rhode Island State Records |
